Local Nomad Music / Legal

This Copyright Policy explains the ownership and permitted use of content published through Local Nomad Music, the responsibilities of people submitting music and the process for reporting material that may infringe copyright or related rights.

- Spotify, SoundCloud and other embedded or linked media;
- copyright complaints and counter-notifications concerning Website material.
This Policy does not determine every ownership or licensing issue that may arise in a professional music project. Project-specific rights should be established in an appropriate recording, production, label, distribution, publishing or licensing agreement.
This Policy should be read together with the:

- code and Website components;
- original selection, arrangement and presentation of content.
Publication on the Website does not place the content in the public domain and does not grant an unrestricted right to copy, distribute, modify or commercialise it.
Copyright notices, watermarks, credits and rights-management information must not be removed or altered without authority.
4. Permitted use of Website content
Subject to these Terms and applicable law, visitors may:
- view public Website pages;
- share an ordinary link to a public page;
- quote a limited portion for lawful commentary, criticism, reporting or academic use;
- print or save a reasonable copy for personal reference;

Any quotation or reference should:
- remain proportionate to the lawful purpose;
- avoid implying endorsement;
- identify the source where appropriate;
- preserve relevant credits;
- not substitute for the original work.
Permission for one use does not automatically authorise another use, platform, territory, campaign, adaptation or commercial purpose.
5. Prohibited use of Website content
Without permission or another valid legal basis, you must not:
- copy or republish substantial Website content;
- sell, sublicense or commercially distribute Website material;
- remove copyright notices, credits or watermarks;
- present Website content as your own;

- use Website content to train an unauthorised generative model;
- circumvent access controls or download restrictions;
- use the Local Nomad Music identity in a manner implying an unauthorised partnership or endorsement.
Local Nomad Music may request that unauthorised copies be removed and may exercise available contractual, platform or legal remedies.
6. Copyright and related rights in music
A music project may contain several distinct rights held by different people or organisations.
| Rights category | What it may cover | Possible rights holders |
|---|---|---|
| Musical composition | Music, melody, harmony, structure and lyrics. | Songwriters, composers, lyricists and publishers. |
| Sound recording | The particular recorded performance or master. | Artist, label, producer, financier or another master owner. |
| Performance rights | The recorded or public performance of musicians and vocalists. | Performers and applicable collecting or licensing organisations. |
| Production elements | Beats, programming, sound design and original production material. | Producer, beat maker or another creator, subject to agreement. |
| Visual rights | Artwork, photographs, video, logos and promotional design. | Artist, photographer, designer, filmmaker or commissioning party. |
| Name and image rights | Commercial use of an identifiable person’s name, likeness or voice. | The identified person or another authorised rights holder. |
Payment for studio time does not, by itself, conclusively determine master ownership, songwriting shares, publishing rights, producer royalties, performer rights or public-release authority.
Those matters should be confirmed in writing before commercial release.
7. Rights in music and content submitted by users
A submitter retains the rights they lawfully hold in submitted music, recordings, lyrics, artwork, photographs and other project material.
Submitting material grants Local Nomad Music only the limited permissions described in the Music Submission Policy, unless a later written agreement provides additional rights.
A submission does not automatically grant Local Nomad Music the right to:
- release the track publicly;
- sell or distribute the master;
- license the composition;
- register ownership;
- use the work in advertising;
- create merchandise;
- publish an unreleased demo;
- train a public generative model;
- claim authorship or ownership.
The submitter remains responsible for having authority to provide the material for the selected review, service or project purpose.
8. Third-party music, embeds and external content
The Website may display links or embedded content from Spotify, SoundCloud and other independent platforms.
Copyright and platform rights in externally hosted material remain with the applicable artists, labels, composers, publishers, platforms and other rights holders.
An embedded player or external link:
- does not transfer ownership to Local Nomad Music;
- does not grant visitors a right to download the audio;
- does not guarantee that Local Nomad Music controls the recording;
- does not override the external platform’s terms;
- may cease to work if the external content is removed or restricted.
Copyright complaints concerning material hosted entirely by an external platform may also need to be submitted directly to that platform.
9. Credits, metadata and attribution
Accurate credits are an important part of music-project administration.
Clients and submitters should provide accurate information concerning:
- artist and featured-artist names;
- songwriters and composers;
- lyricists;
- producers and co-producers;
- mixing and mastering engineers;
- session musicians and performers;
- publishers and labels;
- artwork, photography and video creators;
- sample or beat sources where attribution is required.
Local Nomad Music may rely on information provided by authorised project representatives and is not responsible for undisclosed or inaccurate contributor information supplied by a client.
Requests to correct Website credits should identify the page, the current information, the requested correction and the basis for the request.
10. Samples, beats, remixes and licences
The person submitting or commissioning a track is responsible for identifying third-party material that may require clearance or a licence.
This may include:
- samples from existing recordings;
- interpolated melodies or lyrics;
- leased or purchased beats;
- sample-pack material;
- cover compositions;
- remixes and mashups;
- film, television or spoken-word audio;
- stock photographs and artwork;
- third-party generative content.
Recording, mixing or mastering a track does not mean that Local Nomad Music has verified or cleared all third-party rights.
Local Nomad Music may decline or stop work where unresolved rights issues create a material legal or release risk.
11. AI-generated and AI-assisted content
AI-assisted material may create additional questions involving authorship, licences, source material, voice rights and commercial-use restrictions.
A person submitting AI-assisted material should disclose material use of:
- synthetic or cloned voices;
- AI-generated vocals or performances;
- generative instrumentals;
- AI-generated melodies or lyrics;
- AI-created artwork or photography;
- systems designed to imitate an identifiable artist;
- training or reference material subject to third-party restrictions.
The submitter remains responsible for:
- reviewing the AI provider’s terms;
- determining whether commercial use is authorised;
- obtaining consent for voice or likeness replication;
- not falsely presenting synthetic audio as an authentic performance;
- not knowingly submitting unlawfully reproduced material;
- accurately identifying human creators and performers.
Local Nomad Music may remove, reject or decline to publish material where AI-related ownership, impersonation or licensing risks cannot reasonably be resolved.
12. Reporting suspected copyright infringement
If you believe material available through the Website infringes a copyright you own or are authorised to enforce, submit a written copyright notice through the official contact route.
The complaint should concern identifiable material available through or controlled by the Website.
Before submitting a complaint, consider whether the use may be authorised by:
- the copyright owner;
- a licence;
- a project agreement;
- a platform feature;
- fair use or another statutory exception;
- public-domain status;
- another lawful basis.
Local Nomad Music cannot provide legal advice about whether a particular use infringes copyright.
13. Information required in a copyright notice
A complete copyright notice should include:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorised to act for the owner.
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed. If multiple works are involved, provide a representative list that clearly identifies them.
- Identification of the material claimed to be infringing and enough information to locate it, such as the exact Website URL, page title, media title or relevant location.
- Your name and sufficient contact information, including an email address and, where appropriate, a mailing address and telephone number.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorised to act for the owner of the allegedly infringed right.
The notice should also explain the requested action and identify any relevant registration, licence, ownership or representation information that may assist the review.
14. Review, restriction and removal process
After receiving a sufficiently detailed complaint, Local Nomad Music may:
- acknowledge receipt of the notice;
- request missing or clarifying information;
- review the identified Website material;
- review relevant licences, permissions or project records;
- contact the person who supplied or controls the challenged material;
- temporarily restrict access during review;
- remove or disable access to the material;
- decline action where the notice is incomplete, unsupported or outside Local Nomad Music’s control;
- preserve records reasonably necessary for legal or security purposes.
Removal or restriction does not necessarily constitute an admission that infringement occurred.
Local Nomad Music may act before making a final determination where temporary restriction is reasonably necessary to limit legal, privacy or platform risk.
15. Forwarding copyright notices
A copyright notice and relevant contact details may be shared with:
- the person who submitted or uploaded the challenged material;
- the artist, label or project representative concerned;
- the Website hosting provider;
- a relevant platform or service provider;
- legal advisers;
- authorities where disclosure is legally required.
Do not include unnecessary sensitive information in a copyright notice.
Information contained in a notice may become relevant to legal proceedings or a counter-notification process.
16. Counter-notification
If your material was removed or restricted because of a copyright notice and you believe the action resulted from mistake or misidentification, you may submit a written counter-notification where the applicable legal procedure permits it.
A counter-notification should include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and the location where it appeared before removal.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled because of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address and telephone number.
- A statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the appropriate United States federal district court and accepting service of process from the person who submitted the original notice or that person’s agent, where the DMCA procedure applies.
If you reside outside the United States, the required jurisdiction statement may concern the federal judicial district in which the relevant service provider is located.
A counter-notification is a legal statement. Consider obtaining independent legal advice before submitting one.
17. Possible restoration after a counter-notification
Where the statutory DMCA counter-notification procedure applies, Local Nomad Music or the relevant service provider may forward a valid counter-notification to the original complainant.
The challenged material may become eligible for restoration after the applicable statutory period unless the complainant provides notice that court proceedings or another qualifying action have been initiated to restrain the disputed activity.
Material will not necessarily be restored where:
- the counter-notification is incomplete;
- another legal or contractual reason independently supports removal;
- the material violates Website rules;
- a court order or valid platform instruction applies;
- restoration would create a security or privacy risk;
- Local Nomad Music does not control the external platform hosting the material.
Restoration does not constitute a final legal decision concerning copyright ownership or infringement.
18. Repeat and serious infringement
Local Nomad Music may restrict or terminate access to submission routes or project services where a person repeatedly or seriously:
- submits material without sufficient authority;
- uploads infringing content;
- removes rights-management information;
- ignores valid copyright restrictions;
- makes deceptive ownership claims;
- uses the Website to distribute unauthorised material;
- circumvents measures intended to protect copyrighted content.
The response may depend on the nature, reliability and number of complaints, the person’s conduct, available evidence and applicable law.
Local Nomad Music may take immediate action in response to a single serious violation where appropriate.
19. False, abusive or misleading claims
Do not knowingly submit a copyright notice or counter-notification containing a material misrepresentation.
Examples may include:
- claiming ownership of a work you do not control;
- ignoring an existing licence you granted;
- knowingly misidentifying the challenged material;
- submitting a notice to silence criticism unrelated to infringement;
- using copyright procedure to resolve a payment or personal dispute;
- submitting a false counter-notification to restore clearly unauthorised material;
- providing false authority or identity information.
False or abusive claims may lead to:
- rejection of the request;
- restriction of Website access;
- preservation and disclosure of relevant records where lawful;
- responsibility for damages, costs or other consequences available under applicable law.
20. Disputes that are not copyright claims
The copyright complaint process is not the correct route for every disagreement.
Separate issues may include:
- unpaid invoices or royalties;
- contract interpretation;
- songwriting-share disputes;
- producer-credit disputes;
- trademark or passing-off complaints;
- defamation;
- privacy or personal-data requests;
- name, image or publicity rights;
- platform account disputes;
- disagreement with a negative review or opinion.
Use the Contact page and clearly identify the legal or project issue involved.
Local Nomad Music may ask the parties to resolve private contractual or ownership disputes directly or through appropriate legal procedures.
21. Evidence, records and preservation
When a credible rights dispute arises, Local Nomad Music may preserve relevant information for a reasonable period.
Preserved information may include:
- the copyright notice;
- the counter-notification;
- relevant correspondence;
- Website-page records;
- submission information;
- project agreements and licences;
- technical logs;
- dates of removal, restriction or restoration.
Records may be retained where reasonably necessary for:
- legal claims;
- repeat-infringer assessment;
- fraud and abuse prevention;
- compliance with legal process;
- proof that a complaint was handled.
Retention is also governed by the Privacy Policy.
22. No legal advice or final determination
Local Nomad Music may make practical decisions about whether content remains available through the Website, but it is not a court and does not provide a final determination of copyright ownership or infringement.
Website decisions may be based on:
- the information available;
- the completeness of the notice;
- contract and licence records;
- platform and hosting requirements;
- risk management;
- applicable legal obligations.
Nothing in this Policy constitutes legal advice to a copyright owner, submitter, artist, producer, publisher or other party.
Parties should obtain advice from a qualified intellectual-property professional where their rights, liability or commercial release may be materially affected.
23. Changes to this Copyright Policy
Local Nomad Music may update this Policy to reflect changes in:
- Website publishing and submission features;
- music and media services;
- AI-assisted content practices;
- external platforms and hosting arrangements;
- copyright law and notice procedures;
- internal rights-review processes.
The revised version will be published on this page with an updated revision date.
A change to this public Policy does not automatically transfer rights or amend a valid project-specific agreement.
24. Copyright contact
Copyright notices, counter-notifications, ownership questions and credit-correction requests may be submitted through the official Website contact route.
